When we were here

Shake your head at me, a smile just tugging the edge of your mouth

I don’t remember how we got here but there is a pull

A thread

Lacing through my chest

A sleepwalker following a dream

I will get to where I’m going

Tucked against your arm under shadow sky and bright lights

I remember hands in the dark and a whispered word

Not language, not quite, only breath and meaning

I think I could understand anything you say to me

Now

I close my eyes and there is rest waiting for me

A peace of you laid gently over my ribcage

I will tuck the scent of our first kiss in the drawer of my night stand

It may never be this again,

But at least tonight it was
